I spend some time on Tuesday & Wednesday finishing an order, beginning work on a new order and working on the super secret collection.
The finished order was a single feather stud earring. I’m really pleased with the finished product! I have to admit I was quite nervous when the customer asked me to make this for them – I’d never even thought about making a feather before, so this was totally new to me. I began by drawing feathers and practicing what shape I liked, whether I liked to tilt slightly or straight up and down and then transferred the final design onto silver. I pierced out the shape, filed the piece to refine it a little …. and then got stuck. I needed some kind of tool to help to form the main quill down the centre of the feather.
Problems like this have never stopped me before so I hunted through my tool box and found a cheap set of mini screwdrivers. I customised one of them to create the mark I need and was off again. I marked out the fine lines and soldered the pin onto the back of the piece.
On Tuesday I just had to decide what kind of finish the earring was going to have … matt, shiny, patinated, white? I went with patinated in the end as I thought that it showed off the most detail. The customer should have received it by now, I hope she’s as happy with it as I am.
I did quite a bit of work on Wednesday but it was nearly all prep work, so I haven’t got a lot to show for it really, but it means that when I do get into the workshop again I should be able to make some good progress quickly. I did, however get to make some progress on the super secret collection (I always feel like I should be wearing my super secret decoder ring when I say that). The main feature piece is almost complete – I’m quite excited. I also have one pair of earrings finished and a set of studs almost finished so that’s all ticking along nicely.
I’ve got a meeting tonight about a new project that will be happening later in the year, I’ll tell you all about it tomorrow when I know more of the finer points :o)
My facebook page is still open too, guys! Don’t’ forget to pop along and say hello, Mr Facebook isn’t being so nice to small businesses at the moment so it would be good to get some support x
